Augmented Driving Experience

What does the future city look like and what kinds of interactions will happen when we sit in autonomous vehicles? This project is an exploration of our future vehicle and city landscape in the context of augmented reality. In this film, I use the windshield as a screen for display to create a world where digital information such as road signage, city landscape and commercial advertisement are superimposed onto the physical world via augmented reality, and the interaction and spatial transformation can also occur via augmented reality.

Final Deliverable

3 Themes

Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is a live direct view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. The windshield is the largest "screen" for receive data when people are driving. I see the potential of the screen, not only for protection, but also for information displaying and analyzing.

Space & Landscape

When autonomous vehicles are widespread, we will have more time for sightseeing and other activities. How to make city landscape more abundant and interesting? Any other activity we can do when we sit in a car? What kind of transcation will happen when we change our time, space and purpose?

Information Interaction

Everytime we want to interact with the outside world, we need to stop and open the car window. Is there any seamless way for communication and interaction? Reading information from differet devices (mobile phone, navigation, road signs, etc) when driving is distracting. Can they be presentesd in a single large "screen" and become clear, cohesive and readable?
